Convergint is currently recruiting for a team-oriented Skilled Labourer / Fusion Technician to join their team in Fort McMurray. As the Skilled Labourer / Fusion Technician, you will be responsible for the safe execution of exposing underground piping for assessment and repair. Mechanical means will often be used for assistance, and shoring boxes will often be set in place as well as work in open excavations. You will be in close communication with their Lead, who will dictate and participate in workflow.
This is a high-functioning position where communication is key. Detailed communication and reporting is an expectation of the role. This is a permanent, full-time position with some required overtime.

What you’ll do with “Our Training and Your Experience”

Performing groundwork to expose piping, working alongside equipment operators.
-
Assisting in setting up HDPE fusing and pipe bolt ups.
-
Must be capable of fusing small, medium and large diameter pipes
-
Assisting with excavation and installation of shoring box.
-
Environment gas testing.
-
Fire watch.
-
Operating a variety of tools/equipment including shovel, rake, jack hammer, bush hammer, hand tools, and small compaction equipment, pumps, tow-behind heaters, generators, compressors, light plants, etc. (Towing experience is an asset).

Maintaining excellent housekeeping on job sites.

Perform hazard assessments daily prior to any job.

Work within permitting system on an industrial site.

Perform job scopes to assist in planning requirements for equipment and materials.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead or Supervisor.
What You’ll Need

Advanced skills and experience related to piping systems or ground disturbance is considered an asset.

Must be a self-starter and work well with minimal supervision.
-
Ability to read mechanical drawings considered an asset.
-
Strong troubleshooting & problem-solving skills.
-
Travel to and on jobsites is required. Valid driver’s license required.

Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
-
Experience with SAP an asset.

Good computer skills including familiarity with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and prioritize work based on criticality.

Advanced skills and experience related to piping systems or ground disturbance is considered an asset.
Experience Requirements:
-
2-3 years experience with HDPE pipe fusing in an industrial or construction setting
-
2-3 years general labourer experience in an industrial or construction setting
-
Ground disturbance level 2 is required
-
Oilsands experience is considered an asset.
-
Experience with civil, underground piping, shoring and working around heavy equipment is considered an asset.

Valid Class 5 Drivers License (able to provide driver’s abstract)

Mechanically inclined with strong organizational & problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Effective communication skills, written and verbal.

Confident to work independently and complete daily tasks according to schedule.
