Custodian
Position Type: Regular Full Time – 40 hours per week
Location: Downtown, Calgary
Position Summary
This position provides required sanitation, cleaning, and custodial service to custodial standards ensuring the building environment is healthy and comfortable.
Hours/Schedule
Regular Full Time - 40 hours per week;
Friday to Tuesday – 8 and a half hour-shift every day. The shift timings may vary between 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Shifts will include mornings, evenings, and weekends.
What you will be doing in your role
- Cleans, sanitizes, sweeps, dusts, mops, washes, vacuums, polishes, and waxes floors.
- Cleans windows, mirrors, woodwork, furniture, equipment, and other surfaces.
- Cleans washroom facilities, offices, classrooms, shower rooms, and other rooms.
- Supplies toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and other hygiene items.
- Empties trash bins and dispose of trash in the garbage compactor or garbage bins.
- Cleans, sterilizes and/or disinfects areas and equipment before and after each use.
- Spot cleans carpets and performs general carpet cleaning, as required.
- Performs more extensive cleaning, carpet cleaning, stripping and waxing floors, and light maintenance.
- Organizes and maintains janitorial supplies in janitorial room(s) and on janitorial carts.
- Follows established procedures and documentation for inventory tracking.
- Informs custodial supervisor of general repairs and maintenance items required.
- Lifts and moves furniture as requested.
- Works independently or cooperatively with team members to complete tasks on schedule and standards.
- Attends mandatory training and specialized work training when scheduled.
- Performs laundry service as required by program/department needs.
- Complies with all prescribed sanitation and building disinfecting protocols.
- Attend meetings as requested by the Director of Facilities or Custodial Supervisor.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience and Competencies
- Some High School.
- Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
- Child Intervention Check if working in the vicinity of children.
- At least three months of prior related experience in life skills and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills
