ABOUT THE POSITION
Southeast Advocates for Inc. (SEA) is seeking a Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS) Coordinator (Maternity Leave Contract – Approx. 18 Months) to deliver school-based and community settlement services to newcomer youth and their families in the Estevan area. This position supports successful integration into the Canadian school system and broader community.
The SWIS Coordinator works within a team of settlement and employment staff and reports to the Team Lead and Executive Director.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Needs and Assets Assessment and Referral (NAARS)
- Conduct individual and family needs and assets assessments using the National Standardized Assessment Template
- Develop personalized, portable settlement plans with relevant referrals and supports
- Complete follow-up and reassessments within 3–6 months; update plans as client needs change
- Document all activity in iCARE
School Orientation – Students and Families
- Provide orientation to the school system for newcomer students and their families
- Assist with school registration and share information about programs, activities, and post-secondary pathways
- Deliver orientation sessions at the start of the school year (half-day to multi-week format)
Settlement-Oriented Programming
- Complete SWIS-TEE intake assessments and offer client referrals
- Facilitate sessions on settlement-oriented topics relevant to life in Canada
Informal Language Learning
- Facilitate informal English and/or French language learning activities (conversation café, literacy workshops, book clubs)
Community Connections
- Facilitate community activities that help clients explore local resources and build social connections
- Coordinate matching activities and Peer Leadership programming for youth and children
Sector Engagement
- Participate in the NAARS Community of Practice
- Engage with school staff to build intercultural competence and inclusive school environments
- Contribute to anti-racism workshops and bystander training
Administration and Reporting
- Maintain accurate client files and data entry in iCARE
- Contribute to quarterly narrative reports and funder reporting
- Attend team meetings and organizational events as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary education in social work, education, community development, human services, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with newcomers, immigrants, or marginalized populations
- Experience in program delivery, case management, or direct client services
Skills and Competencies
- Strong cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently, manage a diverse caseload, and prioritize effectively
- Comfortable facilitating group sessions and individual meetings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with electronic case management or reporting systems
- High degree of confidentiality and professional ethics
Other Requirements
- Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver's licence and reliable access to a vehicle
- Ability to travel within southeast Saskatchewan as needed
- Satisfactory criminal record check (Vulnerable Sector)
