The HR Manager plays a key role in fostering a positive work environment, resolving conflicts, and driving company-wide initiatives that enhance employee satisfaction and organizational success. They collaborate with executive leadership and department heads to create policies, training programs, and strategies that support the company’s goals. The HR Manager is also responsible for ensuring compliance with labor laws and maintaining high standards for employee well-being and engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Effectively manage HR-related activities for MaKami College including transactional services, consulting, employee advocacy, policy creation and setting strategic HR direction.
- Review performance evaluations and related reports to ensure alignment with company objectives.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the CEO on all HR-related business matters.
- Collaborate with the executive team to design and implement strategies that support the organization’s mission and goals.
- Partner with department heads to develop and deliver employee training and continuing education programs.
- Respond to employee inquiries and address complaints, investigating issues when necessary.
- Monitor employee morale through surveys and other tools to identify areas for improvement.
- Develop and manage initiatives to boost morale, including employee recognition programs such as bonuses and rewards for top performers.
- Enhance the company’s reputation as an attractive employer.
- Design and implement employee relations strategies that promote a positive workplace culture.
- Oversee employee benefits, policies, and procedures to ensure they are current and effective.
- Collaborate with department managers to coordinate and support performance evaluation processes.
- Mediate and resolve employee conflicts, ensuring concerns are addressed promptly and fairly.
- Ensure compliance with all labor laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Maintain health and safety standards within the organization, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Coordinate weekly with the Payroll Manager and Talent Acquisition Manager to review HR operations and ensure smooth workflow.
Experience / Education:
- The ideal candidate will have 7 to 10 years’ experience as a generalist in a progressive Human Resources setting.
- The candidate will have relevant post-secondary education and will have continued to take relevant Human Resources course work to augment their work experience.
- Completion of a CHRP designation would be considered an asset.
- Strong computer skills in HRIS platforms, Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word are also desired.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta labor laws, proficiency in HRIS software, excellent communication and conflict resolution abilities, leadership, and strategic planning.
- Familiarity with Alberta’s Employment Standards Code and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations preferred
- Must be “solutions” oriented.
- Ability to provide information (both positive and negative) objectively.
- Excellent communication skills including the building of effective relationships (both internally and externally).
