Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Heavy Tow Truck Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for safely recovering, towing, and transporting heavy-duty vehicles and equipment while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and safety. This role requires excellent driving skills, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to respond efficiently to roadside emergencies and recovery situations.
Duties
- Safely operate heavy-duty tow trucks for the recovery, towing, and transport of commercial vehicles, buses, trailers, and heavy equipment.
- Recover disabled, overturned, stuck, or accident-damaged commercial vehicles using industry-approved recovery techniques.
- Perform winching, lifting, uprighting, and recovery operations using heavy-duty towing and recovery equipment.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicles and equipment are safe, operational, and compliant.
- Secure vehicles and equipment using chains, straps, binders, and other recovery gear to ensure safe transport.
- Respond promptly to emergency roadside calls while maintaining professionalism and exceptional customer service.
- Complete towing reports, recovery documentation, inspection forms, and required paperwork accurately.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, law enforcement, emergency responders, and team members.
- Perform basic maintenance checks and report any mechanical issues with trucks or recovery equipment.
- Follow all provincial transportation regulations, company policies, and safety procedures at all times.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance of company vehicles and equipment.
- Be available for on-call, after-hours, weekends, and emergency recovery operations as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- Valid DZ or AZ Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record.
- Minimum 2 years of heavy towing or commercial driving experience.
- Experience operating heavy-duty tow trucks and recovery equipment is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of heavy vehicle recovery techniques, rigging, winching, and load securement.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues.
- Excellent understanding of road safety regulations and heavy-duty towing procedures.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and remain calm under pressure.
- Physically capable of working outdoors in various weather conditions and handling heavy equipment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with heavy accident recovery and vehicle uprighting.
- Knowledge of air brake systems and commercial vehicle operation.
- Experience working with OPP, MTO, police, or emergency roadside services is an asset.
- Additional certifications in recovery operations or heavy equipment operation are considered an advantage.
Pay: $30.00-$50.00 per hour
