Job Description :
Champlain College Saint-Lambert is seeking the services of an ADAPTED SERVICES COUNSELLOR for a regular full-time position (35 hours/week) in the Student Services department.
FUNCTIONS
Reporting to the Director of Student Services, the Adapted Services Counsellor will provide analysis, support, and expertise in relation to the services for students with special needs including all aspects of Individual Educational Plans, specialized accommodations, as well as providing recommendations and leadership for the support services available for students. The incumbent will also collaborate in providing faculty and staff with strategies to ensure that students with special needs receive the proper services, both inside and outside the classroom.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Identify, evaluate and provide services to students with learning disabilities as well as students with other special needs including but not limited to attention deficit, psychiatric and neurological disorders, physical and sensory disabilities.
2. Meet with students concerning available accommodations, documentation required and put in place with these students their Individual Education Plans.
3. Ensure the establishment, completion and proper upkeep of the appropriate student dossiers and files as required by the College and external granting organizations, always respecting confidentiality.
4. Meet with students individually and or in groups to discuss resources and provide workshops on learning strategies along with other members of the Student Access Center (SAC) Team.
5. Oversee aspects of accommodations including instruction on available resources, specialized tutoring, classroom aids, educational materials as well as the procedures to ensure the integrity of exam invigilation for students receiving services from the Student Access Center.
6. Prepare and conduct educational resources and workshops for faculty and staff concerning accommodations services and disability issues.
7. Communicate and liaise with faculty and staff of students receiving services from the SAC concerning students in their classes/services to ensure accommodation resources and issues are understood.
8. Represent the College on external committees as required.
9. Liaise and refer students to the proper professional and/or service and participate in discussions relating to the success of students receiving services from the SAC.
10. Attend and actively participate in all Student Services and College activities as required.
Requirements :
Education
Undergraduate degree in an appropriate field of specialization, particularly in Special Education.
Competencies
Ability to Communicate in both English and French, orally and in writing
Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
Proven ability to function and collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team setting
A solid understanding of learning disabilities and of the behavior of students with special needs at the college level
Knowledge of teaching strategies for student with special needs at the college level
The incumbent must also demonstrate:
Strong organizational and administrative skills
Strong customer service skills
Attention to detail
Required Tests : The candidates will be required to submit to language tests (English and French) as well as Word and Excel tests.
Work Schedule : Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Salary Scale : $56,670 - $100,410
