The Faculty of Business & Information Technology (FBIT) invites applications from qualified individuals for a teaching focused position in Mathematics at the Assistant Teaching Professor level. This position is subject to budgetary approval, and commences on July 1, 2019.

The Assistant Teaching Professor will support the Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of IT programs by delivering introductory mathematics courses central to each program’s core curriculum and coordinate all math placement testing. Areas of instruction include mathematical concepts, techniques and applications of original and standardized mathematical techniques in solving specific problems and situations.

In keeping with our technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, UOIT seeks faculty members who continually strive to integrate technology and innovative strategies to support student learning. Other duties will include preparing and delivering lectures and tutorials, preparing and marking assignments, tests and examinations, responding to student inquiries, maintaining regular office hours to support students, and invigilating tests and examinations. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute, as a team member, to the growth and development of FBIT programs by participating in committees and other activities in support of the Faculty and UOIT.

As the successful candidate, you have a Master’s degree, or higher, in Mathematics combined with a passion for teaching. You also demonstrate the potential for outstanding teaching contributions with a proven ability to develop and deliver high quality curriculum and implement innovative and inclusive teaching strategies. In addition, you have excellent communication skills, an ability to contribute to diverse perspectives and a track record of successful collaborations reflecting a strong orientation for working collegially. Experience with online and hybrid teaching is preferred. Familiarity with digital technologies and computer skills would be beneficial.

Faculty members are expected to follow a 70% Teaching, 20% Service, and 10% other commitments workload each year.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association (https://shared.uoit.ca/shared/department/hr/documents/Policies%20and%20Procedures%20/faculty-association-teaching-faculty-collective-agreement-2017-2020.pdf).
