Job Scope:
The AVOP Trainer is responsible for delivering in-class onboarding sessions for new hires working in airport, transportation, and security-related roles. This role ensures all employees receive required regulatory, safety, and security training.
The Trainer sets the tone for professionalism, compliance, and safety from day one and ensures all new hires understand the operational, regulatory, and behavioral expectations of working in a controlled airport environment.
Key Responsibilities (not limited to):
Training Delivery & Assessment
- Deliver certified AVOP training programs, including:
- Airside safety procedures
- Airport Traffic Directives
- Pavement markings, signage, and lighting
- Radiotelephone communication protocols (where applicable)
- GTAA operational requirements
- Conduct practical airside driving sessions and evaluations.
- Prepare trainees for GTAA written and practical examinations.
- Coach participants on site identification, mandatory test components, and examination requirements.
- Evaluate trainee performance and provide constructive feedback to support successful certification outcomes.
Program Administration & Compliance
- Maintain accurate training records, attendance logs, evaluations, assessments, certifications, and completion reports.
- Track participant progress and certification status to ensure compliance with GTAA, Transport Canada, and organizational requirements.
- Coordinate training schedules and enrolments.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for AVOP-related inquiries from employees, managers, and clients.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify training gaps and recommend enhancements to course content and delivery methods.
- Stay current on GTAA Airport Traffic Directives, Transport Canada regulations, and aviation industry best practices.
- Support the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to AVOP training.
- Collaborate with operational leaders and clients to identify evolving training needs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support onboarding and orientation initiatives as required.
- Promote a strong safety-first culture throughout all training activities.
- Perform other duties aligned with operational and contractual requirements.
Education, Experience & Qualifications:
- Experience delivering training, onboarding, or instructional programs.
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and classroom management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to obtain and maintain airport security clearance (RAIC/DA).
- Experience in aviation, transportation, airport operations, security, or regulated environments.
- Knowledge of airport security procedures, AVOP requirements, and regulatory compliance standards.
