Role: Machine Operator/Labourer
Hours: Monday to Friday 7:00am-5:30pm (weekends as requested and/or required)
Contribute to the construction of projects through the provision of skilled operation of assigned equipment, as well as physical labour when required and/or requested. This position reports to the assigned Site Superintendent and/or Project Manager.

Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the assigned supervisor of the project, operate machine equipment to a maximum ability and skill level.
- Assist and complete non-machine tasks as requested and required, and when adequately skilled or trained to do so; augment labour efforts of the crew.
- Arrive physically and mentally prepared to work. This includes the possession of adequate personal protective equipment (hat, vest, boots); appropriate work apparel (full-length pants and capped shirt); being free from the effects of drugs, alcohol, and fatigue.
- As deemed eligible/authorized and as provided training drive, operate, and use company vehicles, equipment and tools safely, for the task it was designed. (Refer to company standards for eligibility/trained use of equipment). Conversely, inform your supervisor when asked to perform a task, use a tool, or operate piece of equipment that you are not comfortable with.
- Complete a daily service inspection for all personally assigned heavy equipment. For shared company heavy equipment, complete a daily service inspection check on machinery as requested by the supervisor; provide the completed form to the supervisor immediately upon task completion for submission with daily job sheet. Communicate with shop foreman/mechanic for heavy equipment service requirements.
- Keep in good condition and safeguard company equipment from theft, vandalism, and damage. This includes the completion of daily circle checks for motor vehicles (as per company standard), as well as reporting and submitting damaged tools for repair.
- Contact your Supervisor / Project Manager with regards to being late, calling in sick, and coordinating rain day work/cancellation of work.
- When signing for materials/rental equipment for a project ensure that; the packing slip denotes the correct assigned project name and number and accurately reflects the materials being purchased; your signature as well as your PRINTED NAME are reflected on the packing slip; the packing slip is provided to the foreman prior to day’s end for submission with daily job sheet.
- When returning to the yard at night, exercise good planning and preparation for the following workday (ie. fueling and servicing of equipment, collection of tools and materials as requested/required)
- As deemed as ‘responsible worker’, work under the direct instruction of the Project Manager to complete a given task or project. This includes the completion of the Daily Job Report with all applicable information and associated paperwork (packing slips, job inspection reports etc.)
- Maintain a personal record of hours worked on applicable projects. Be prepared to provide such info for reconciliation of hours with employer records.
Requirements:
- Operate heavy equipment (backhoe, bulldozer and excavator)
- Ability to clean and lubricate equipment and refill equipment tanks, operate computer-controlled equipment, conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, secure special attachments to equipment, operate radios, perform very minor repairs on equipment.
- Ability to clear land, handle materials, rough and fine grade, slope, pike, excavate, roll, trenching, backfilling.
- Calculate weight, distance, volume and length measurements for earthworks.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience machine operating within the ICI sector
- Class “G” Driver’s License
Certifications:
- Heavy Equipment Operator Trade Certificate (preferred)
- WHMIS
- First Aid and CPR
- Working at Heights
Assets:
- AZ License
- Operate GPS equipment.
