Hours of Work: 5hrs or 10hrs/wk; Working hours are dependent on client needs - usually after school and weekends.
The Child and Youth Life Skills Worker position is designed to function as part of a team, to work with children with additional support needs and their families and other professionals involved with the family on specific goals as outlined in the service plan.
Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12 with preference given to post secondary education in child development.
- Minimum one year experience working with children with developmental disabilities/additional support needs.
- Valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.

- Ability to provide suitable activities for the child within the guidelines of the service plan.
- Capable of developing trust relationships with children and their families.
- Good communication skills, written, verbal and non-verbal.
- A commitment to family centred practice.
- Ability to develop accessible community resources.
Responsibilities:
A. Program
- Provide a program based on the intellectual, physical, emotional, and social needs of the child.
- Develop an individual service plan for the child based on the identified goals and in collaboration with family, Ministry Social Workers and other community professionals and resources.
- Maintains documentation on goals on agency database and submits updated goal reports to MCFD as requested.
- Work with parents, as required, to promote understanding of the growth and development of their child.
- Value and respect each parent’s ideals, culture, concerns and abilities.
- Work with individual community members, resources and agencies to foster opportunities for inclusion of children with diverse needs.
B. Organization:
- Meet with Manager/Director of Community Living Services as required and keep updated on significant issues.
- Assist Community Living Services Manager/Director with maintenance and revision of Program Operating Manual.
- Meet with Ministry Staff as required.
- Other related duties as required.
