Job Description Summary
The Museum Facility Manager is responsible for the coordination and smooth operation of all aspects of MOA s buildings/operations. In addition, the position will oversee MOA s Haida Houses and outdoor landscape maintenance. The position will ensure that all mechanical systems are maintained, creating a safe and secure environment, and that the building s appearance, both inside and outside, reflects the care and respect MOA values to present world arts and cultures via exhibits and programmes, to the university, stakeholders and the community at large. In addition, the position will oversee the maintenance of MOA s public face to ensure optimal visitor experience. The Facility Manager will oversee the building maintenance budget, and will identify, scope, plan and budget for all building services and planned maintenance. The Facility Manager will also work with a variety of departments, both within MOA and at the university, to coordinate and evaluate museum operations, policies, procedures, including security procedures, as well as contribute to the overall functioning of the museum.
Organizational Status
This Facility Manager will report to the Associate Director, Operations, and will work collaboratively with MOA staff, University Building Operations representatives, maintenance staff, tradespeople, technicians and external contractors.
Work Performed

Oversee, with conservation staff, all aspects of museum operations in terms of HVAC and BMS systems, all gallery spaces, collections storages and labs, office areas and public spaces, including exterior spaces such as parking and access, grounds maintenance, outdoor buildings and art works.

Identify, scope, plan and budget for all building services and planned maintenance, including site safety and emergency testing.

Liaise with MOA staff and University service providers to proactively plan for and implement improvements to building operations to increase efficiencies.

Manage and maintain MOA Building Maintenance budget and review all invoices/billings to ensure accuracy.

Responsible for submitting and monitoring MOA service and customer requests to UBC Building Operations.

Coordinate, schedule and manage the activities of trades, technicians and contractors involved in maintenance, repairs and building services, and communicate project status to Museum Security and relevant parties within and external to MOA.

Work within MOA to ensure needs and projects are coordinated as they relate to the daily operations of the museum and Museum Security protocols.

Provide management of capital projects, and serve as liaison with relevant MOA and UBC staff, and relevant contractors and trades.

Responsible for ensuring MOA s gallery and case lighting is fully functioning, ordering bulbs and fixtures as required, and ensuring light levels meet standards set by MOA conservation staff.

Work closely with exhibit design staff to determine demands of new exhibits on structure and systems, and to ensure that adequate security hardware is in place to monitor temporary exhibits.

Responsible for visitor experience and ensure there is appropriate and sufficient signage at MOA and on campus to direct and inform visitors about MOA and its various activities.

Participate in MOA s emergency and disaster response planning and implementation, as well as serve on MOA s Health and Safety Committee.

Assist with installations of travelling and in-house exhibitions as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Consequences of error rest with the incumbent who has to rectify his/her own errors. Failure to complete a project within the estimated budget would result in shortfalls in other areas of the Museum s budget. Failure to complete a project on time has ramifications both internally and outside the Museum. Failure to manage effectively would lead to considerable stress and disruption internally and externally.
Supervision Received
The position is directly responsible to the Associate Director, Operations, and contributes directly to the policy and priorities of the Museum and works in conjunction with all staff and students. A wide latitude of decision-making is required.
Supervision Given
It is the responsibility of the position to select, train, motivate, supervise and participate in the work of subordinates engaged in work in and around the museum. These include contractors, trades people, interns, and students.
Minimum Qualifications
Journeyperson certification in an appropriate trade. Minimum of three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in construction/facilities management or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Previous work in a similar role, preferably in a museum or gallery.

Extensive experience and knowledge working with architectural and systems plans as well as asset and facilities management practices in a public venue

Demonstrated experience supervising contractors

Previous experience managing and maintaining budgets

Experience with emergency procedures and thorough knowledge of Risk Management and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

Computer literate, experience with relevant software.
