Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME) is the fast-moving, award-winning technology engine that powers Scotiabank’s Corporate and Investment Banking and Capital Markets businesses.
We’re looking for a Senior IT Manager to take ownership of the Bank’s Employee and Issuer programs. As a senior team member, along with extensive technical responsibilities this role involves managing and supervising engineering/development staff by setting performance expectations, monitoring performance, providing performance feedback including preparation of performance appraisals and, as needed, providing counsel and coaching.

In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership for a team of 4-8 people and work closely with Business Analyst/User Support team to interpret requirements and translate them to application solutions. That means participating in the development and implementation of new systems or enhancements by running required conversion programs, performing shakedown testing of the production environments, preparing the Change Control Release documentation, and running parallel test cycles.
You’ll ensure delivery of negotiated product/function while following standards and methodologies. This not only includes the design, development, and unit testing of solutions using Java/Scala/Python, Spring Boot, RESTful services but also ensuring the availability, performance, scalability and security of productions systems, system troubleshooting and problem-solving across platform and application domains
As a Senior Manager, the minimum qualifications you bring with you are:
Hands on experience designing and developing integration solutions with Kafka, message queue, and related technologies
Proven experience in building public and internal REST APIs
Excellent communication skills to be able to take oral and written business requirements and develop efficient code to meet set deliverables
Familiarity with current and rapidly changing technologies
5+ years of technical experience in developing and supporting applications using technologies such as Java/Python/Spark/Nifi/Kafka/SQL
Robust understanding of current IT practices, systems development techniques especially requirements specification and testing methodologies
Experience with current development techniques, such as debugging, testing (Unit, Integration and Contract),
Behaviour Driven Development, Test Driven Development, coding, use of productivity tools (GIT, JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Bitbucket etc.)
Knowledge in Capital Markets
An Undergraduate degree or a diploma in computer science or related work experience.
