Specialist, Project Commercial Services
Our client is looking for a Specialist, Project Commercial Services to support a major capital project.
This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on the day-to-day commercial administration of services contracts. The portfolio includes both existing awarded contracts requiring ongoing administration, change orders and regular SAP updates, as well as new service packages that will require sourcing, tendering and commercial negotiation.
The position can be based remotely within Western Canada or from the Vancouver office. Candidates should be available to travel to the Vancouver office approximately once per month.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on day-to-day commercial administration of services contracts supporting a major capital project.
- Administer an existing portfolio of awarded contracts, including service orders, contract variations, change orders, extensions, amendments and contract close-out.
- Maintain commercial and contract information in SAP on a regular basis, including updates related to service orders, purchase orders and contract changes.
- Support the procurement of services such as engineering and technical studies, consulting services, labour services, logistics, transportation, warehousing and ad hoc site services.
- Support the Logistics Lead in preparing contract variations and establishing new agreements for transportation and warehousing services.
- Support the Business Readiness Lead in preparing contract variations and establishing new agreements as required.
- Develop package strategies aligned with project objectives for major service packages.
- Prepare and issue tender documentation in accordance with project and individual package requirements.
- Manage bid clarifications, commercial evaluations and recommendations for award.
- Negotiate commercial terms and conditions with service providers.
- Prepare and finalize contract documentation, including MSAs and standalone Service Agreements.
- Prepare service orders under existing MSAs and establish new service agreements as required by the project.
- Review invoices to ensure alignment with contractual rates and terms and coordinate or support the payment process.
- Monitor contractor and service-provider performance and maintain effective working relationships to support successful project delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve commercial outcomes, reduce costs through effective negotiation and ensure procurement activities remain aligned with project schedule and budget.
Requirements
- Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience supporting services contracts within major capital projects, mining, energy or other heavy industrial environments.
- Demonstrated experience with service agreements such as engineering and technical studies, consulting, labour services, logistics, transportation, warehousing or other project and site services.
- Strong hands-on experience with both pre-award and post-award contract activities.
- Experience preparing and administering contract amendments, change orders, extensions, service orders, claims, invoice validation and contract close-out.
- Strong understanding of contract formation, commercial negotiations, sourcing and procurement processes.
- Experience preparing RFx documentation, managing bid clarifications, evaluating submissions and negotiating commercial terms and conditions.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on individual contributor role that combines detailed contract administration and system updates with sourcing and commercial negotiation.
- Hands-on SAP experience is strongly preferred, including experience maintaining purchase orders, service orders, contract changes or other commercial transactions within the system.
- Experience with SAP Ariba, Aconex, Contruent or similar commercial systems is an asset.
- Experience with Stage-Gate project execution methodologies.
- Strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build effective relationships across project teams, contractors and service providers.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Ideal Background
The successful candidate will be a commercially capable contracts professional who is comfortable with both the strategic and administrative sides of services contracting. This role is best suited to someone who enjoys personally managing the details of awarded contracts, including changes and SAP updates, while also having the commercial experience to take new service packages to market and negotiate agreements.
This is not a supervisory role. The successful candidate will be expected to remain directly involved in the day-to-day execution and administration of the contracts they support.
Pay: $56.00-$100.00 per hour
