Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies for various clients
- Research various tax issues for tax planning and compliance and prepare concise and conclusive research memoranda
- Identify and implement tax planning opportunities, including tax reorganizations, estate plans, and post mortem tax planning
- Assist senior staff members in all aspects of corporate tax initiatives
- Maintain a current and high level of familiarity and understanding of tax codes, regulations, and other technical information
- Utilize staff to meet client deliverables in a timely manner and on budget
- Engage in discussions and correspondence with various tax authorities to explain positions taken by clients and to determine reasons for assessed amounts
- Keep senior managers/partners apprised of the progress of assigned tasks; focus on moving files/engagements forward and managing within time budgets
- Prepare various complex tax returns, tax forms and various tax elections
- Write external publications and blog posts and other memoranda
- Present on specific tax topics internally and externally
- Provide guidance and support the development of junior members of the tax team
- Participate in firm promotion events to increase awareness of the firm and its services in the marketplace
Qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of:
- University degree
- Completion or near completion of In-Depth Tax program OR completed a Masters of Taxation program, or CPA
- At least four years’ practical experience in public practice
- Exceptional technical skills
- Keen attention to detail along with an ability to focus on the overall concepts
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a commitment to providing excellent client service
- Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to learn
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Contributes positively to a team environment, but able to work independently when required
Computer Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Caseware/Caseview
- Strong knowledge of tax applications including Taxprep, CCH Intelliconnect, Taxnet Pro, Tax Find, etc.
- Microsoft Office Applications - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Outlook
