Overview
The Bilingual Legislative Assistant provides legislative, research, and administrative support to the Member of Parliament. The successful candidate will assist with parliamentary duties, prepare briefing materials, conduct research, manage correspondence, and support the Member's work in the House of Commons and parliamentary committees.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage correspondence, including emails, letters, and telephone inquiries, while maintaining a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Draft, edit, proofread, and format legislative documents, reports, briefing notes, speeches, and presentations.
- Conduct legislative and policy research, gather relevant information, and prepare summaries and briefing materials for the Member.
- Monitor parliamentary proceedings, legislation, committee activities, and issues of importance to constituents and stakeholders.
- Prepare the Member for House of Commons sittings, committee meetings, and stakeholder engagements by providing research, briefing notes, and background materials.
- Coordinate with parliamentary offices, government departments, stakeholders, and constituents as required.
- Maintain organized records and ensure the secure handling of confidential information.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Mandatory fluency in both English and French (spoken and written).
- Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Law, Communications, History, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of the Canadian political environment, parliamentary processes, and public policy issues.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Assets
- Previous experience working in a parliamentary, political, government, or public affairs environment.
- Knowledge of House of Commons procedures and committee operations.
- Experience preparing briefing materials, speeches, or policy analyses.
Pay: $40,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
