THE ROLE
The Life Skills Staff is responsible for engaging with clients to endorse and support their abilities for independence, dignity, and respect, providing opportunities for success in fostering self-esteem, and promoting positive interaction and social skills to enhance their quality of life.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate programs as per Client’s needs, independently or in a group setting.
- Provide individual support to Client’s as required with all aspects of daily living, included but not limited to meal planning, public transportation, hygiene, budgeting, social interactions and community engagement.
- Coordinate with the team and supervise clients in the safe operation of the Pool Program for Community Clients. Ensure all pertinent pool information is documented and communicated to appropriate personnel.
- Provide transportation or assist with securing transportation for Community Clients for program participation, medical and essential appointments, always adhering to Ministry of Transportation Regulations and PHM policies.
- Act as a liaison for Clients, between community services, and family members with appropriate authorization.
- Coordinate with the team to develop Care Plans and execute personalized life skills
- Support persons served in accessing and participating in community resources, including recreational, educational, and vocational opportunities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Life Coach Certificate, Social Service Worker (SSW), or Recreation Facilitator certification.
- Post Secondary School Education or Life Skills Coach training an asset.
- Minimum three months’ experience in related field, including previous related experience.
- Valid First Aid/CPR certificate and Crisis Prevention Intervention Certification.
- Flexibility and ability to work various shifts including days/evening/weekends or extended hours as required.
- A valid Class G Drivers’ license
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer skills an asset.
- Demonstrated maturity, flexibility, initiative, patience, and tact especially when working with clients, co-workers, and community representatives.
- Proven ability to work well independently and as a member of a team, using good judgement.
- Creative, encouraging, and cheerful disposition.
- Good physical health and emotional well-being.
