Toric Optometry & Optical is seeking an experienced Licensed Optician to join our busy practice. This role begins with vacation coverage from September 12- October 17 and may lead to ongoing opportunities, depending on clinic needs.
We are looking for someone who can step confidently into a busy optometry and optical environment with minimal training. The ideal candidate will be particularly strong in optical sales, patient communication and front-desk operations, while also being comfortable assisting with clinical pre-testing.
This position is best suited to an optician with previous practice experience who is comfortable managing multiple patient-facing responsibilities and can contribute from the beginning of the contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide confident and professional eyewear consultations
- Assist patients with frame and lens selection
- Recommend appropriate lens designs, materials and coatings based on prescription, lifestyle and visual needs
- Build rapport with patients and effectively guide them through their eyewear options
- Take accurate optical measurements including PDs and fitting heights
- Dispense eyewear and perform adjustments, repairs and troubleshooting
- Process optical orders accurately
- Assist with patient check-in and check-out
- Answer telephone inquiries and assist with appointment coordination
- Maintain efficient patient flow within the clinic
- Assist with routine clinical pre-testing, including: OCT, Axial length measurements, Corneal topography, Autorefraction and other routine pre-testing
- Work collaboratively with the optometrist and clinical team
Qualifications
- Registered/Licensed Optician in Ontario
- Minimum 2 years of optical experience preferred
- Strong optical sales and patient communication skills
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmic lenses, measurements, dispensing and frame adjustments
- Comfortable working at the front desk and interacting with patients by phone and in person
- Able to remain organized and professional in a busy clinic environment
- Comfortable learning and using ophthalmic diagnostic equipment
- Previous OCT, axial length or corneal topography experience is an asset
- Dependable, proactive and able to work with minimal supervision

Position: Temporary Licensed Optician – Vacation Coverage

Pay: $21.00-$26.00 per hour
