Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Payroll Assistant is responsible for the provision of payroll services including:

Accounting applications, calculating time sheet data, issue Records of Employment, year-end functions, assist auditors etc.

Primary responsibilities of the position include:
  • Verifies, calculates and enters time sheet data into the computer payroll system for employees & transmits pay for direct
deposit

  • Inputs, balances and transmits all payroll entries for payroll direct deposit
  • Ensures all wage and benefit calculations for employees are in accordance with Provincial Employment Standards regulations
  • Ensures the proper withholdings are taken and remittances are made to the taxing authorities including but not limited to
WCB, CCRA, EI, CPP, payroll taxes, benefit carriers and reconciles monthly

  • Performs year end functions to close payroll including issuing of T4’s, preparing payroll schedules and Pension Information
Return

  • Generates required HR operational reports and schedules including relief hours and overtime;
  • Process final cheques and issues Record of Employments
  • Inputs and balances worksheets for semi-monthly foster home payments for the Treatment Foster Care Program
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience
  • Formal training in Accounting or payroll
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Proficiency with CanPay and Goldcare, accounting and payroll programs and applications desired
  • Experience with audits, income tax forms, health benefits programs, sick pay and retirement plans
  • Strong worth ethic and positive team attitude
  • Effective attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to respond appropriately in high pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor
  • Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and beliefs will be considered an asset.
