Position Summary
The Project Manager is responsible for leading civil excavation and water/sewer main projects from pre-construction through to close-out, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements. In this role, you will work closely with field superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, clients, and consultants to coordinate resources, monitor daily production, and proactively resolve challenges that arise on active job sites.
The Project Manager maintains a strong understanding of project scope, drawings, and contractual obligations to effectively manage risks, changes, and client expectations. This role plays a key part in driving operational efficiency, maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, and supporting successful project delivery across ICI and municipal infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities
- Manage civil excavation projects across ICI and municipal sectors, including sewer and watermain work.
- Oversee all phases of the project lifecycle, ensuring all phases stay on schedule, within scope, and aligned with project goals.
- Track on site production and monitor progress daily, adjusting plans as necessary to maintain productivity.
- Forecast and schedule project timelines, labour requirements, equipment needs, and resources.
- Coordinate materials, equipment, and supplies to ensure efficient project execution.
- Lead subcontractor start-up and coordination meetings to establish scope clarity, site logistics, safety expectations, and schedule commitments.
- Collaborate closely with field superintendents, foremen, and operations managers to maintain project momentum and quality.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, consultants, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Provide the Site Superintendent with complete and timely project information, including approved purchase orders, subcontractor scopes, drawings, and execution details to support efficient field delivery.
- Maintain strong knowledge of the project contract, estimate, and the company’s estimating strategy.
- Support the estimating team with the preparation and pricing of change orders by ensuring complete and timely change order packages are prepared, submitted, and followed through to approval; maintain overall accountability for the successful progression and completion of all change order requirements.
- Manage all contractual obligations, ensuring compliance with terms and conditions throughout the project.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to safety, budgets, delays, and operational issues.
- Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, ensuring accuracy and organization at all times.
- Obtain all permits and secure timely approval of project submittals from clients or consultants.
- Schedule and ensure completion of all required inspections.
- Identify cost impacts related to drawing or specification changes and secure client approval before proceeding with change orders or T&M work.
- Review and approve invoices, work tickets, and payables, ensuring accuracy and proper cost coding.
- Ensure timely approval of PPCs, change orders, T&M summaries, and other billing requirements to support prompt monthly invoicing.
- Lead the project close-out process, preparing a comprehensive project close-out presentation for internal review.
- Provide regular updates to senior managements on project status, achievements, challenges, risks, and financial performance.
- Represent the company professionally in all negotiations and interactions, fostering goodwill, trust and long-term relationships.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in the civil excavation or heavy civil construction industry.
- Field crew or supervisory experience is a strong asset.
- 2-3 years of project management experience, ideally with ICI, municipal, or sewer/watermain projects.
- Ability to read and interpret project drawings, specifications, and technical details.
- Strong understanding of excavation and heavy equipment, construction practices, and ICI project requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to delegate effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident working with clients, consultants, and internal teams.
- Strong problem-solving and risk-management abilities.
- Safety-focused with solid knowledge of safe work practices.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and capable of maintaining accurate project documentation.
