We are currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Edmonton finance team. This role is ideal for growing your skills and experience in a full cycle accounting role. Duties of this position will include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE.
- Manage full-cycle accounting including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Oversee project/job costing, WIP (work-in-progress) schedules, and revenue recognition for engineering projects.
- Prepare and analyze budget-to-actual variance reports for project managers and leadership.
- Ensure compliance with GST/HST filings, payroll remittances, and other statutory requirements.
- Support external accountants.
- Assist with cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
- Mentor and provide guidance to other accounting staff
- Assist with year-end T4/T5 preparation and other regulatory filings specific to Alberta/Canada.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Actively enrolled in the CPA PEP program with relevant experience would be an asset.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within engineering, construction, or professional services.
- Strong knowledge of ASPE.
- Proficiency with accounting software and experience with project management software.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with project-based accounting, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
- Ability to work on your own and in a team setting with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
