Political Action Canvassers needed this municipal election!
Are you passionate about social and economic justice? Like working with people and want to make a difference?
We're looking for people who are serious about affordable and livable housing, better transit, affordable and accessible childcare, good jobs and other issues affecting low and moderate income communities.
We need champions on the inside of government that are willing to stand up for what's right and represent the people's interests, NOT the interests of wealthy developers and corporations. That’s why COCSJ is endorsing Olivia Chow for Mayor this municipal election. We are hiring energetic Political Action Canvassers to build her supporter base and win.
Job Description
We need people to do political organizing at the community level to get people engaged on the issues and involved in the democratic process. That means the canvas team will:
- Organize the Unorganized: Connect with low/moderate-income households, students, immigrants, and tenants.
- Mobilize Disenfranchised Voters: Historically, lower income households are less likely to vote but if canvassers connect with families on the issues that matter to them, we can mobilize a large segment of the population to vote in their interest.
- Direct Engagement: This is a door-to-door role focused on having real conversations with everyday people with the goal of motivating them to take action.
Compensation & Career Path
- Contract Duration: September 16th-October 26th. Multiple positions available; training provided.
- Pay: $19.52/hour.
- Hours: Part-time (10–30 hours/week). Must be available in the afternoon/evenings between 12-9pm.
- Career Opportunity: This project lasts up to and including election day, but we are looking for ambitious people interested in building a career in social justice. The strongest canvassers may be offered permanent, full-time, salaried community organizing positions.
- Full-Time Benefits: Permanent roles include sick days, health benefits, vacation, and paid travel/training opportunities. Opportunity to make a real impact and work with a team of like-minded people dedicated to social change.
Skills & Qualifications
- Multilingual candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
- Must be motivated, energetic, and ready to hit the pavement.
- Must have strong verbal communication and people skills.
- No previous experience is required but must have an interest in social justice.
