Technical Writer (12 month contract)

The Innovation Lab and New Ventures team at Interac is working to help bring new products and experiences to the Canadian market. Were looking for a Technical Writer who will work with our passionate and dedicated team to help ensure the launch of these new and existing products and other initiatives are a success.

Youll work with our Product team and senior developers to gain an understanding of our value propositions and key segments as well as to understand how our APIs work, and will help to create content that explains our products to external audiences. You will have a passion for bringing our products to life, leveraging graphics for documentation and videos, and editing sample code. Youll also work closely with our Communitech Lab in Kitchener-Waterloo.

For this role you should be very familiar with APIs how they are structured and built, the more advanced concepts and how to best distribute them into the developer ecosystem.

Youre great at
Writing, proofing and editing public-facing documentation using clear, easy-to-understand language and assets
Lending your expertise to our current technical and business teams on creating content for the developer audiences
Creating HTML5/CSS animations to enhance online documentation
Helping create internal guidelines on writing and publishing technical documentation
Being embedded into whats happening on the product roadmap and at our Communitech Lab in Kitchener-Waterloo
Creating content that clearly explains to our audiences the work were doing on the team and in the Lab
Loading and managing source code in GitHub
Triaging support tickets in JIRA
Understanding and applying WCAG accessibility guidelines
Having knowledge of front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap, Material UI, etc.
Providing ongoing insight and validation into developer-centric best practices on APIs and sample code
Providing technical support and mentorship at community events (Hackathons, meetups, etc.)
Helping streamline the user experience for the Interac Developer Centre
Who are you?
You have experience writing technical documentation using clear, easy-to-understand language, and using single-source authoring tools
You have a combination of education and experience that makes you a fit for this role. This may mean a Degree in Computer Science Engineering or certifications in technical writing, back-end development. A degree is an asset, not a requirement
You have some experience teaching or guiding others on how to use an API or complete technical tasks
Volunteer experience at a Hackathon, coding school or other community-centric event is a plus
You have experience using REST and SOAP APIs, and can explain in plain language how an API works
You have minimum 1-2 years of experience in a similar role
