Description
The Department of Radiology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reports to the Research Manager of the Vascular Imaging Lab. Some flexibility of the work schedule will be required, e.g. one weekend day per month or evening hours.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Facilitate and provide assistance in the collection, review, and analyses of research data. Responsibilities of the position include
-
Schedule, prepare, consent and screen study participants for MR imaging
-
Conduct cognitive assessments and collect demographic and medical information
-
Assess and review MR images for quality and research purposes
-
Process MR images through specified pipelines
-
Data entry of results into existing database structures
-
Maintain recruitment and human consent records, data assessments and measurements in an organized manner
-
Manage the Vascular Imaging Laboratory's human ethics submissions and renewals
-
Communicate clearly, in a pleasant and professional manner with the public, staff, fellows, and students both in person and by e-mail
-
Participate and when required present in team meetings
- Ability to complete assigned and scheduled tasks on own initiative and to demonstrate that results meet the unit's research standards are essential to success

Ability to demonstrate and explain how work is performed to individuals in other positions performing similar work
-
Maintain established procedures and programs including, but not limited to, the assurance of a hazard free working environment

Ensure good relationships are established and maintained with all unit members, including part time members and students
-
Perform data entry in order to maintain existing databases and for the development of new databases
-
Proofread, create, and assist in the editing process of spreadsheets and other documents for other members within the unit

Must maintain the ethical and confidentiality standards set by external institutions (in regard to such legislation as FOIP, GCP) as well as those internally set by the university

Must maintain current safety regulations set out by internal or external institutions

Records research data on paper and in an electronic database
-
Aggregate data from multiple locations
-
Process data according to established procedures, maintaining accuracy and precision throughout all stages
Compare processed data to expected, providing feedback on completeness and accuracy

Qualifications / Requirements:
-
Undergraduate degree or diploma or equivalent work experience is required
-
Working knowledge of human neuroanatomy required
-
A well-developed attention to detail is essential
-
Previous experience in human subject research is strongly preferred
-
Previous experience with MR research is preferred
-
Previous experience with visual assessment, including quality assurance, of medical images is preferred
-
Previous experience processing MR images is a preferred
-
Experience with administration and scoring of neuropsychological tests is strongly preferred, particularly in older populations or populations with stroke, dementia, or related cerebrovascular diseases

Strong written and oral communication skills are required
-
Time management skills and setting task priorities is required
-
Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) is an asset

Familiarity with database platforms e.g., RedCap, IRISS, is an asset
-
Previous experience in a medical/clinical setting, as well as knowledge working with medical terminology is preferred

Fully proficient interpersonal and organizational skills
-
Demonstrated strong analytical skills is preferred
-
Demonstrated strong communication with team members and study participants and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines is required
English fluency is essential, ability to perform listed function in additional languages is an asset
