Position Overview
We are seeking an Assistant Controller to support the Controller in managing the day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting across multiple projects and entities.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a project-based environment and enjoys partnering with operations, project managers, and leadership to deliver accurate, timely financial insights.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Close
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting, including preparation of financial statements
- Lead or support month-end close processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of general ledger activity
Accounting Operations
- Assist in managing day-to-day accounting operations including cash management, accounts payable, loan management, job costing, and payroll
- Review journal entries, accruals, invoices, and contracts to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies
- Prepare bi-weekly payroll, ensuring process timelines are met
- Maintain HR records and assist with benefits administration
- Ensure compliance with GAAP/ASPE and applicable tax regulations
- Support and mentor other accounting staff
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
- Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes
- Provide insights on financial performance, cash flow, and cost control
- Analyze variances and recommend improvements to management
Year-end Compliance
- Coordinate and support annual external review and compilation engagements, including preparation of working papers, schedules, and supporting documentation
- Ensure compliance with tax filings, lender reporting, and other statutory reporting requirements
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, workflow efficiency, and reporting
- Assist in the development and documentation of standard operating procedures for various accounting and payroll functions
- Support ERP/accounting system enhancements and automation initiatives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA designation (Preferred, but not required)
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Construction, real estate, or development industry experience an asset
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems
- Advanced Excel skills
- Proven ability to manage priorities in a deadline-driven environment

Pay: $72,500.00-$90,000.00 per year
