Contract Opportunity
NTSI is currently seeking experienced Contract Fleet Instructors based in Canada to deliver our SAFER Driver Training Program to Canadian fleet drivers.
This project-based opportunity combines classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel coaching, vehicle evaluations, and driver performance assessments. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with strong communication skills, a passion for safety, and the ability to coach and engage drivers from diverse industries and backgrounds.

Assignments will be offered based on client demand and NTSI Contract Fleet Instructor availability. Contractors retain the right to accept or decline individual assignments based on their availability and scheduling needs.
Contractor Responsibilities
The following responsibilities represent the primary duties associated with this contract opportunity and may vary based on client needs and assignment requirements.
- Deliver NTSI SAFER Driver curriculum to fleet drivers throughout Canada.
- Facilitate engaging classroom instruction focused on defensive driving principles, risk awareness, and behavior modification.
- Conduct vehicle pre-trip inspections and safety assessments.
- Lead hands-on close-quarter maneuver training using client vehicles, primarily cement trucks, and may also include pickup trucks, service vehicles, utility vehicles, and box trucks.
- Perform behind-the-wheel road evaluations and provide coaching and feedback.
- Ensure all training is delivered professionally and consistently in accordance with client expectations and contract requirements.
- Complete all client site-specific required training documentation and reporting accurately and on time, before close of training assignment.
- Engage professionally with clients and participants as a representative of the NTSI SAFER Driver Fleet training program, fostering a positive and respectful training environment.
Contractor Qualifications
The qualifications below outline the experience, skills, and attributes sought for this role.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
- Fluency in both English and French, with proficiency in Québec French, is considered a strong asset.
- Must reside in Canada and be legally authorized to work in Canada as an independent contractor.
- Ability to travel throughout Canada. Valid and current passport preferable, occasional travel to the United States may be possible based on training requirements.
- Ability to travel frequently and accommodate varying assignment schedules.
- Willingness to accept occasional short-notice assignments.
- Experience in cement truck driving, commercial vehicle operation, transportation, driver training, fleet safety, firefighting, law enforcement, emergency services, or other safety-focused professions is considered a strong asset.
- The ability to assess, coach, and provide feedback to operators of commercial vehicles is required. A current Canadian commercial driver's licence (Class 1, AZ, DZ, Class 3, or provincial equivalent) is considered a strong asset.
- Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Previous teaching, training, coaching, or facilitation experience is preferred.
- Strong professionalism, adaptability, empathy, and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently while contributing as part of a larger team.
Essential Functions of the Role
To successfully perform this role, instructors must be able to carry out the essential functions of the position, which may include, but are not limited to:
- Frequent travel throughout Canada and occasional travel to the United States.
- Standing, walking, presenting, and facilitating training sessions for extended periods.
- Entering, exiting, and riding in a variety of fleet and commercial vehicles.
- Conducting behind-the-wheel evaluations and observing driver performance from the passenger seat. Training materials provided by NTSI.
- Performing vehicle inspections and demonstrations in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Setting up and moving training materials, traffic cones, and other instructional equipment.
- Working safely around moving vehicles, active fleet operations, and industrial worksites.
- Adhering to client-site safety and professional standard requirements.
Contractor Compensation
Contractor compensation ranges from CAD $450.00 to CAD $750.00 per day, per assignment, depending on the specific project scope, assignment requirements, the Contractor's geographic location, experience, and qualifications.
Compensation for each assignment will be confirmed in writing before the Contractor accepts the assignment.
The Contractor will be compensated CAD $50.00 to CAD $65.00 per hour for time spent completing internal training on the NTSI SAFER Driver curriculum, as applicable.
Travel Expenses: NTSI covers approved travel expenses related to training assignments. Airfare and lodging are typically arranged through SAP Concur, NTSI's travel management platform, allowing Contractors to book their own approved travel arrangements, which are paid directly by NTSI. Approved meals, mileage, car rental, and other required business travel expenses will be reimbursed upon submission of invoice and valid receipts. NTSI will communicate total assignment meal and incidental expense allowances before Contractor accepts assignment, ensuring Contract Fleet Instructors are aware of approved spending limits in advance.

The successful candidate will engage with NTSI strictly as an independent contractor on a project-by-project basis. The contractor is solely responsible for all federal, provincial, and local tax compliance, including Canada Pension Plan (CPP) contributions, Employment Insurance (EI) premiums, and GST/HST registration and remittances where applicable.
