About Us

The Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP) is a free service of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice that helps you make or receive court-ordered maintenance payments when your court order is enrolled with the program: can take steps to enforce maintenance orders when payments are not made. The MEP operates under the law set out in the Maintenance Enforcement Act.

About the Opportunity

Under the supervision of the Coordinator, the Filing Clerk is responsible for maintaining the filing system in the Maintenance Enforcement Program office, New Waterford. As the Filing Clerk responsibilities include creating, classifying, retrieving and storing records, daily filing of documents and ensuring that access to information is efficient. The Filing Clerk ensures records are managed as valuable assets from the time of their creation or receipt to their eventual disposition. This position provides excellent and timely service to management, staff and clients.

About You

Three years' related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable.

Proficient keyboarding skills and a sound knowledge of general office procedures and computer programs, including MS Office, MS Word, Excel and Outlook is required. You have a working knowledge of specialized records management systems (such as FileNet and STAR/STOR).

As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate accuracy and knowledge in understanding a Records Management system and up to date knowledge of the guidelines and schedules. This position requires great attention to detail and time management skills. Completeness and integrity of data is crucial to inform program actions and support decision making processes, thus reliability is also essential in this role.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, can work with minimal supervision and be capable of maintaining the highest level of confidentiality. The incumbent must exercise tact and diplomacy and have good organizational and communication skills. Judgement and professionalism regarding records management are essential, in order to safeguard security and confidentiality of government information.

Pay Grade: CL 13

Salary Range: $1,346.00 - $1,465.00 Bi-Weekly

This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU).
