Job Description
A woman with complex needs is looking for weekend support from a PSW. She has a close family and network of friends. Her care is family-directed and supervised, with weekday personal assistance already in place. The position is located in the Midland and Eglinton area of Scarborough, on a major bus route.
Schedule and Training
- Preferred availability is 12-hour shifts on Saturdays and Sundays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Shorter shifts of 6 or 8 hours may also be considered.
- Orientation and training will be provided by the family and extended support team.
Support Responsibilities
- Assist with care needs, including personal hygiene, toileting, dressing, helping administer medications, oxygen use, and meal preparation, as directed.
- Assist with household tasks, including laundry and cleaning her kitchen and living area.
- Encourage meaningful daily engagement through conversation, creative projects such as photo montages, and other stimulating activities.
- Accompany her by taxi to community activities, errands, and medical appointments; her mother may join some outings.
- Respond calmly and compassionately during periods of anxiety, emotional distress, confusion, memory changes, or changes in routine, using patience, reassurance, and a steady presence. These skills are important when interacting with both the woman and her elderly mother, who may also need occasional additional assistance.
- Provide clear daily verbal and written updates.
Role Requirements
- Current criminal reference check.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities, autism, complex needs, or anxiety would be an asset.
- Reliability, punctuality, consistency, compassion, and the ability to work comfortably within a family-directed support model are important.
- Willingness to learn and use calming, grounding, and reassurance strategies.
- Two professional references.
- Must be non-smoking and scent-free due to sensitivities.
This is a family-led, self-employed independent contractor position.
Pay: $23.00 per hour
