Reporting to the Artistic Program Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning and teaching weekly after-school choir classes for children in grades K-6 to develop their musical and singing abilities in keeping with the vision, philosophy, values and mission of Amber Academy Youth Fine Arts Society. The successful candidate will also be offerred the role of Musical Director for our winter and spring musical theatre productions under a separate contract. Qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to:
● A passion for music and singing
● A variety of musical abilities that include vocal and choral repertoire
● A keen interest and knowledge of a wide range of music
● Able to provide young singers with guidance and direction in vocal technique, tone, rhythm, pitch, tempo, and harmony
● Piano proficiency or the ability to run a rehearsal with a consistent pitch center without a piano if required
● Able to create and implement a program with clear goals, curriculum, and lesson plans
● Self-directed and excellent communication and leadership skills
● Enjoy working with children and able to establish rapport with youth between ages 5 through 11 for choir, and up to age 18 for musical theatre productions
● Enthusiastic about mentoring and empowering youth to become confident individuals and engaged members of the community
● Must have proven experience or training in voice and a variety of styles of music
● Proven leadership experience with children of varying abilities in an educational or recreational capacity
● Previous experience directing a choir would be an asset
● Experience in dance or stage movement would be an asset
This is a contract, part-time term position beginning in September 2026 and terminating in June 2027, with the option to renew for the 2027-2028 season. Regular choir classes will be on Mondays from 3:30-4:30pm. Musical rehearsals will be Fridays from 3:30 - 5:00pm and/or Sundays from 10:00am - 1:00pm (rehearsal schedule will be based on each production team member's availabilty, musical requirements from the show, etc.) Compensation will be based on previous experience, education, and training as well as the musical demands of each production.
