As a member of the Insurance & Claims Management team, you will play an integral role in supporting the operations of the section and multiple stakeholders across the City by handling claims, identifying and mitigating corporate risk.

- Adjust claims. Plan and implement timely methods of investigating claims and accidents which involve the City and engage experts as required
- Interview appropriate parties, secure oral and written statements, investigate the root cause of loss and present assessments of corporate liability and recovery avenues
- Mediate claims disputes and obtain accurate estimates on the value of damaged property
- Respond to and interact with claimants in a proactive and timely manner
- Provide oversight of property damage appraisal services and scope assessment
- Examine records, establish appropriate quantum, negotiate settlements with claimants or their legal representatives and obtain releases from the concerned parties
- Gather reports and collaborate with claim assistants as required
- Propose claim settlement proposals and large loss reporting for approval to those with delegated authority pursuant to the City Administration Bylaw
- Maintain accurate and complete files in contemplation of litigation and support the litigation process
- Collaborate with risk analysts for coverage determination and risk identification in order to support risk control practices
- Manage relationships within a diverse line of business and complex environment
- Work effectively with internal & external stakeholders. Support and contribute to department quality assurance program
- Embrace change and advocate for innovative process improvements and lean efficiencies
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of two consecutive years of experience of relevant claims adjusting
- Successful completion of a minimum of four courses from the Insurance Institute of Canada Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) program
Assets
- Experience with court, litigation or legal proceedings
- Experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, claims management systems and records management
- Experience with claims analytics, financials management and claims recovery process will be considered

- Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement.

Up to 1 temporary full-time position for up to 11 months
Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday - Friday. This position adheres to the City's hybrid work policy requiring the candidate to work a minimum of two days per week in the office.
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary: $37.546 - $47.165 (Hourly)
