Position Summary
The Kitchen Assistant plays an important role in supporting CEFA’s commitment to the health, wellness, and happiness of every child. Working closely with the Chef and school team, this position helps maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen by washing dishes, assisting with food preparation and meal service, and supporting daily kitchen operations. The successful candidate takes pride in keeping the kitchen running smoothly while creating a welcoming environment for children, families, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Meal Preparation & Planning
- Assist with meal and snack preparation following CEFA's menu and nutrition guidelines
- Assist with serving meals and snacks to classrooms as needed
- Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment
- Support general kitchen operations and perform other duties as assigned
Food Safety & Compliance
- Follow all CEFA food safety procedures and maintain a high standard of hygiene at all times
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment
- Ensure safe storage, labeling, and rotation of food items (FIFO method)
- Comply with all internal health, hygiene, and safety policies
Collaboration & School Support
- Work collaboratively with the Principal and teaching staff to support special events or celebrations
- Communicate with staff regarding children’s dietary needs and restrictions
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented atmosphere within the school
Qualifications
- Passion for child nutrition and preparing balanced, appealing meals
- Food Safety Certification or equivalent training (required)
- First Aid Certification (preferred)
- Experience working in a achool, childcare, or similar envrionemtn (an asset)
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Clear communication and interpersonal skills
- Must pass a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening
Working Conditions
- Part-time position
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday, daytime hours
- Ability to work independently in a busy kitchen environment
- Occasional flexibility required for school events or special occasions
Pay: $16.00-$19.00 per hour
