About the Opportunity
Kinnect Support is currently seeking dedicated and compassionate Youth Workers to support youth in our Open Custody/Detention Program in the Durham Region.
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of vulnerable youth through supervision, mentorship, life skills support, and crisis intervention.
Kinnect Support operates as a relief staffing agency, allowing staff to select shifts through our scheduling app. This means employees have the flexibility to create their own work schedule based on available shifts posted in the system, while still maintaining reliability and commitment to assigned shifts.

Program Information
This is an eight-bed secure residential youth justice program serving males and trans males aged 12–17. Youth placed in this program are either awaiting court appearances or serving an open custody disposition ordered by the Youth Court.
Important: Staff assigned to this program must be willing to cross a legal picket line and may experience delays of approximately 5–15 minutes when entering the site. Security personnel are present on-site.
Available Shifts
Rotational scheduling including:
- 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Day shifts, weekdays)
- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (Overnight)
- 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM (Evening)
- 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM (Weekends)
Key Responsibilities
Overnight Shifts
- Conduct hourly wellness checks
- Complete documentation and case notes
- Monitor and track youth movement
- Perform housekeeping and laundry duties
- Support a safe and structured environment
Evening & Overnight Shifts
- Meal planning and preparation
- Youth supervision and support
- Documentation and reporting
Day Shifts
- Supervise youth during educational programming
- Support recreational and physical activities
- Accompany youth during community outings and appointments
- Encourage positive behaviour and life skills development
Qualifications
Educational Qualifications
Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in any of the following fields only:
- Social Services
- Mental Health & Addictions
- Criminology & Justice
- Corrections
- Child & Youth Worker
Preferred Qualifications
- UMAB (Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviour) Training
- Current First Aid & CPR Certification
- ASIST Certification
- Experience working with at-risk youth
- Strong communication and crisis intervention skills
Required Documents
- Broad Record Check (Mandatory)
- Valid Driver's Licence
- Satisfactory Driver's Abstract
- Staff aged 25+ may be eligible to drive agency fleet vehicles
