Career Opportunity Principal
Stswecem'c Xget'tem First Nation (SXFN) is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, and motivated Principal to lead Rosie Seymour Elementary Secondary School (RSESS),
RSESS is a First Nation–operated school located in Canoe Creek, BC.and follows the BC school curriculum working with First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) and First Nations Schools Association (FNSA) to support our students.
Rosie Seymour has an enrollment of 16 students with primary and intermediate multi-grade splits (grades K4-3) (grades 4-7) and is located in Stswecemc (Canoe Creek), BC, a semi-remote community about an hour's drive west of Clinton, accessible by gravel road.
SXFN territory offers an incredible outdoor lifestyle with easy access to fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing and the Fraser River is just a 10-kilometre drive from the community.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Education Director, the Principal is accountable for providing instructional and administrative leadership, fostering a positive and respectful learning environment, and overseeing human and financial resources of RSESS. The role advances continuous improvement through strategic planning, effective change management, and collaboration with staff, students, families, and community partners.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor of Education degree
- Eligible for and in good standing with BC Teacher Regulation Branch
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of teaching experience as a Senior Teacher or Principal
- Experience with BC Curriculum (Kindergarten to Grade 10)
- Experience integrating educational technology into teaching practices
- Experience working in a Band-Operated School is an asset
Conditions of Employment
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Valid BC Driver's Licence (Class IV is an asset)
- Access to a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance
- Ability to obtain and maintain WCB-approved Level 1 First Aid
