We are looking for Registered Nurses to join unit 8B (Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program) on a full-time permanent basis to provide family-centered nursing care to children along the continuum of care. In this role, you will assess complex nursing needs and provide well-rounded care to support children and families as they experience acute and chronic illnesses. What is 8B?
8B is a 17-bed inpatient unit. It is the only Pediatric BMT/Cellular Therapy Program servicing all of Ontario as well as the Atlantic Provinces. We serve a uniquely complex population of patients and families challenged with life-altering acute and chronic illnesses that require focused and highly skilled management along a continuum of health services both in Hospital and in the community.

Here's What You'll Get to Do on 8B

Nurses on 8B will learn and develop a valued skillset foundational to practice in acute care clinical settings:

Management of organ dysfunction and related comorbidities
-
Management of complex intravenous and pharmacological therapies
-
Administration of Hematopoietic Stem Cell and Cellular therapy products including but not limited to bone marrow, CORD transplants and CAR T cells and recognition of adverse reactions during infusion

Administration of Chemotherapy/Biotherapy
-
Management of post-transplant immunosuppression and rehabilitation
-
Central Venous Access Device care, maintenance and troubleshooting
-
Administration of blood products, oxygen therapy, enteral and parenteral nutrition
-
Recognition and management of post-transplant complications
-
Management of care across the phases of the illness continuum, including palliative and end-of-life care.

Navigation of complex psychosocial dynamics and care challenges related to life-threatening illness and its treatment.

Involvement in new and innovative therapies and clinical trials.

Specialized Career Ladder and Skills Training: we advance our nurses based on performance and aptitude to train in specialized and highly sought-after skills such as the APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Program. Essential Requirements
-
Graduate of an approved Baccalaureate Nursing Program
- Active General Class RN License through the College of Nurses of Ontario

Possess 1+ years of clinical nursing experience in an RN capacity; new graduates are encouraged to apply via JO#24162

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Recent & related acute care nursing experience is strongly preferred

RN experience in haematology/oncology (paediatric and/or adult) is preferred

Previous work experience in paediatrics or experience working with children is strongly preferred
Position Details:
You will work at a 1.0 FTE for the first year when building expertise in this field. At one year you will become a member of the Nursing Resource Group (NRG) and your FTE will reduce to a 0.8 FTE. In addition to your contracted scheduled FTE (0.8), you will offer additional scheduled availability of 0.2FTE on a casual basis for at least 2 years. After this time, you will return to a 1.0 FTE once your commitment is completed. In the NRG role you will be crossed trained on all unit within the division of haematology/oncology, which includes the inpatient haematology/oncology unit (8A) and the out-patient day hospital unit (8D).
