Position Overview
The Construction Estimator will be responsible for reviewing tender documents, completing quantity takeoffs, obtaining subcontractor and supplier pricing, preparing detailed cost estimates, and supporting the submission of competitive bids.
The successful candidate must understand commercial construction drawings and specifications and be comfortable managing multiple tenders with strict deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Review architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and foodservice drawings.
- Review specifications, addenda, tender instructions, and scope requirements.
- Complete detailed material and labour quantity takeoffs.
- Prepare estimates for restaurant, QSR, retail, and commercial projects.
- Send bid invitations and obtain pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Analyze quotations and confirm that all required work is included.
- Identify scope gaps, exclusions, risks, allowances, and potential change-order items.
- Prepare detailed trade-by-trade and cost-code pricing breakdowns.
- Create scopes of work for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings when required.
- Coordinate with project managers, suppliers, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Prepare bid submissions, tender forms, clarifications, and proposal documents.
- Maintain estimating records, historical pricing, and subcontractor databases.
- Support project handover from estimating to the construction team after award.
- Assist with change-order pricing and budget reviews during construction.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of construction estimating experience.
- Experience estimating commercial interiors, restaurants, retail, or QSR projects is strongly preferred.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Understanding of demolition, concrete, framing, drywall, ceilings, flooring, tile, millwork, painting, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and equipment installation.
- Experience obtaining and evaluating subcontractor quotations.
- Strong knowledge of construction costs, labour, materials, and project sequencing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PDF takeoff software.
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, AutoCAD, or similar software is an asset.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage several tenders simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a vehicle are preferred.

Pay: $40,585.75-$55,000.00 per year
