Under the direction of the Deployment Manager, AHS, the AHS Application Consultant supports the Autonomous Haul Truck business activities through specialized technical knowledge and equipment applications. Acting as a technical resource, the AHS Trainer contributes by providing a deeper understanding of equipment operation within the AHS mining environment, as well as equipment limitations and autonomous haulage best practices. The incumbent provides advice on information systems strategy, policy, management, and delivery. The AHS Application Consultant serves as technical troubleshooter and trainer to SMS Employees and customers. This individual will train personnel on the safe and efficient use of Frontrunner™ product and the factors involved with an autonomous mine.
In this role, travel to various customer sites is required.
1. Provide the full range of training and software consulting services, including developing and training on the proper use of the FrontRunner® application.
Developing and maintaining an in-depth operational knowledge of the FrontRunner™ software system including operational knowledge of DISPATCH™.
Developing and implementing policies and procedures which inform software development and enhancements, to maximize the efficiency, effectiveness and overall quality of software products and information systems
Investigating and communicating operational issues to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and actively participating in the resolution process while maintaining communication to the Manager, AHS Deployments and the Project Manager, AHS.
Providing and promoting best practice procedures as set out by the OEM.
Instructing safe operational procedures to support equipment operators and staff.
Conferring with clients to identify and document requirements in the establishment of operational standards for autonomous haulage.
Developing and implementing policies and procedures throughout the software development life cycle to maximize the efficiency, effectiveness and overall quality of software products and information systems.
2. Providing branch support and service.
Providing equipment support and follow-up as required in the areas of operational performance problems, technical issue resolution, and all relevant matters as required.
Writing and cataloging operational application and operator reports obtained from the field and offering equipment and software modification recommendations, adding to the future improvement of company equipment and practices.
Acting as a customer representative to SMS/OEM and as focal point for communication between customer, OEM, and SMS.
3. Training responsibilities.
Ensuring all trainees are sufficiently trained in the safe procedures and practices applicable to their role in the operation of the FrontRunner® product and software system.
Working under the guidance of the OEM, assembling and teaching specific FrontRunner® training courses relating to the equipment and software system supported by SMS and potentially developing other courses as required.
Supporting other mining branches/areas to provide Truck/AHS training as needed.
This position typically requires the completion (or equivalent) of grade 12 with certification in the operation of Dispatch™ as well as 7-10 years of equipment operating experience within the mining/ construction environment. Additional qualifications include:
Must be a candidate for OEM certification.
Knowledge of mining practices including haulage best practices, shovel layout and dump sites.
Knowledge of the operation of Komatsu Ultra class haul trucks and support equipment with respect to how they interact within a mine are a crucial skill within the scope of the position.
Knowledge of GPS, surveying, and dispatch coordination.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to operate in a diverse environment with a significant focus on client and customer relations.
Strong computer skills and the ability to demonstrate proficiency in software applications as required in the performance of job responsibilities. Microsoft Office, FrontRunner® and Dispatch™ are the programs of key concern.
Must possess good judgment and be able to consistently make intelligent decisions under pressure, have a positive attitude, and be dependable.
Experience in developing and teaching specific technical, application, and operator training courses relating to the equipment supported by SMS would be an asset.
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is strongly preferred.
