Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a full-time experienced Analyst/Associate to join the Relationship Investments group within the Active Equities department in Toronto.

The Relationship Investments group provides strategic capital in the range of $100 million to more than $1 billion to public companies and private companies ahead of an IPO to help finance acquisitions, fund organic growth, facilitate shareholder transitions or recapitalize balance sheets.

In the experienced Analyst/Associate role, you will be focused on the following key responsibilities.

Investing Activities

Conduct research and analysis to identify and evaluate investment opportunities, including: past and projected financial performance, industry dynamics, regulatory environment, quality of management teams, investment merits and risks, expected returns, and other relevant factors
Build comprehensive financial models, test assumptions and investigate sensitivities
Perform valuation analysis, including DCF models, precedent transactions, comparable company analysis, and relative value compared with the benchmark
Meet with company management to review past performance, strategy, outlook, industry and regulatory issues, and other applicable topics
Work with third party advisors providing due diligence advice (legal, accounting, industry strategic reviews, environmental, etc.)
Assist in drafting and presenting investment recommendations
Asset Management Activities

Stay up to date on industry trends and key events, including performance of industry peers
Maintain financial model for portfolio companies
Meet with management of portfolio companies on a regular basis
Assist in evaluating potential follow-on opportunities or exit strategies
Other Responsibilities

Liaise and build relationships with intermediaries and advisors
Review and comment on investment recommendations and asset management updates prepared by other members of the team
Represent CPPIB externally and be able to assist in campus recruitment initiatives and networking events


If you possess the following, we would like to hear from you:
2 to 4 years of related experience working for an investment banking, equity research, investment management, consulting, or private equity firm
Have a track record of academic achievement and professional advancement and exhibit intellectual curiosity
Strong research, analytical, financial modeling, valuation and problem solving skills, with ability to think independently and creatively
Demonstrate strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
Solid verbal and written communication skills
Work effectively in a team environment
Are willing to learn and mentor others on the team
Desire to live in Toronto and willingness to travel
Knowledge of additional languages is not required but is an asset
