Retail Sales Assistant (Seasonal) – Horse Thief Vineyards
Position Overview
Horse Thief Vineyards is seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focused Retail Sales Assistant to join our growing team for the 2026 season.
Located on our fourth-generation family farm, Horse Thief Vineyards offers guests a unique experience that combines premium Nova Scotia wines, authentic hospitality, and unforgettable vineyard experiences. As the first point of contact for many visitors, you'll play an important role in creating memorable guest experiences while sharing the story behind our wines and our vineyard.
This seasonal position offers approximately 20 hours per week, with shifts scheduled Thursday through Sunday and occasional evening hours required for special events.
No previous wine experience? No problem. Comprehensive training will be provided, and strong performers will have the opportunity to return for future seasons as the vineyard continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome guests and provide exceptional customer service in a warm and professional manner
- Share the Horse Thief Vineyards story and guide guests through wine selections and tasting experiences
- Assist customers with retail purchases, wine recommendations, and product inquiries
- Process transactions accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system in Shopify
- Maintain an organized, clean, and inviting retail and tasting room environment
- Restock merchandise, organize displays, and support visual merchandising initiatives
- Assist with wine tastings, special events, workshops, and vineyard experiences as required
- Answer phone calls, respond to guest inquiries, and provide information about products, events, and the vineyard
- Support daily opening and closing procedures
- Work collaboratively with the vineyard team to create a welcoming and memorable guest experience
Qualifications
- Previous retail, hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, or customer service experience is considered an asset but is not required
- A positive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for working with people
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable learning about wine and sharing product knowledge with guests
- Basic cash handling and mathematical skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light lifting as required
- Must be available to work Thursdays through Sundays, with occasional evening availability for events until the end of October.
