We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Support Workers to provide individualized supports to people with intellectual disabilities at home, work, recreation, and in the community. The ideal candidate will support individuals with daily activities, with a focus on individual needs, goals, and rights. This role requires a caring attitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Candidates should be committed to providing respectful, person-centered care that enhances the quality of life for those they serve. Responsibilities
- Support people according to their needs and wishes in all aspects of daily living (e.g. Personal care, meal preparation, medical appointments, shopping, etc.)
- Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
- Maintain familiarity with medical, emotional, and physical needs of people supported and provide support appropriately.
- Engage people supported in recreational activities to encourage social interaction, independence, and belonging in the community.
- Follow Individual Support Plans, as well as behaviour and crisis protocols, including documentation and reporting.
- Support with medication administration following proper protocols and documentation.
Experience and Skills
- Prior experience and/or education in care work is preferred, but not required
- Valid Class “G” Driver’s License with $1,000,000 liability insurance and access to a reliable vehicle with proper endorsement for transporting individuals
- Committed to inclusion for people with disabilities in the community
- Ability to remain calm and solution-focused while supporting individuals in crisis or exhibiting challenging behaviours
- Strong advocacy skills
- Self-motivated and takes initiative in a minimal supervision environment
- Professional and appropriate communication and collaboration with internal and external teams
- Fostering independence in others
