Reporting to the Associate Director, the Tax Senior Associate assists with the execution and planning of tax strategies and programs and supervise tax compliance for the Firm’s Canadian entities.
Your key responsibilities
Support the Tax Associate Director on managing the taxation matters, risks and opportunities of the Firm and its affiliated partnerships and corporations
Assess and advise the Tax Associate Director on taxation and accounting matters related to the determination of taxable income of the Firm.
Conduct research on various strategic taxation matters related to potential transactions, tax planning matters for the Firm, investments of the Firm and other special projects.
Evaluate tax risks related to foreign jurisdictions (primarily the US) including foreign source income, establishment of PE's, foreign tax credits, withholding taxes, and taxation of non-residents and tax treaty relief.
Draft the preparation and compliance of all federal, provincial and foreign filings for the Firm and related entities.
Perform standard operating procedures to centralize and support the efficient, timely and accurate preparation of all tax filings.
Support the Associate Director on matters related to all tax audits and respond to all tax notices and related correspondence.
Provide technical taxation advice and knowledge to others within the finance group.
Provide basic personal and professional corporation tax assistance to the partners of the Firm.
Assess and manage firm taxation matters related to inbound and outbound services provided through the EY global network.
Liaise with People Advisory Services on employment related taxation matters (i.e.. transfer of staff and partners to other countries in the EY global network).
To qualify for the role you must have
Have a bachelor's degree, preferably with an emphasis in accounting, finance, or economics
Have a minimum of 4 years of experience working in the tax department of a public accounting firm providing services to CCPC’s, or the equivalent experience in business or industry
Have an accounting designation or specialty certification in tax
Strong computer literacy skills with Microsoft Office and advanced level Excel skill (pivots, v-lookups, and advanced formulas)
Be able to communicates abstract concepts in simple terms
Demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to bring order to unstructured problems
Must be detail oriented, a self-starter with the ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities and complete work timely and accurately
Have broad exposure to federal income taxation
Have advanced analytical, organizational and time management skills
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
