Pinchin’s Geotechnical Services Group is growing currently recruiting for an Operations Manager and Senior Geotechnical Engineer to assist with the growth of the Geotechnical Practice in the GTA.
We are looking for a forward-thinking individual to help grow and lead our emerging Geotechnical Engineering Practice at Pinchin. A Day in the life of Operation Manager/Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Leadership and Staff Supervision

Ensuring the well-being and safety of Pinchin employees at work sites

Supervising employees and monitoring their job proficiency and quality
-
Mentoring and supervising senior, intermediate, and junior level staff
-
Reviewing technical reports
-
Coordinating group resources, including employee allocation, equipment control, and maintenance, weekend resources, vacation scheduling, etc.

Providing technical assistance to employees
-
Liaise between Clients and Pinchin employees
-
Ensuring employees are trained in and maintain, company procedures and programs
-
Working with employees to develop and set annual goals for professional growth
-
Continue the ongoing development of our geotechnical team through supporting and encouraging technical upgrading and providing direction and mentorship on complex issues and field investigations
Financial and Administrative Responsibilities
-
Ensuring that group budgets are prepared on time and that profit and utilization targets are met

Tracking monthly group performance
-
Overseeing the preparation of contract documents to Pinchin standards
Coordination of Project Activities
-
Developing and maintaining positive relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory body representatives

Developing schedules and assigning work to employees as appropriate
-
Coordinating work and client contacts with other groups within the Company

Maintaining relationships with various contractors and other vendors
Business Development
-
Engaging in business development; building and maintaining client relationships and monitoring industry trends
-
Attending trade shows, and professional associations/events and providing presentations and/or seminars as required to promote Pinchin’s profile
Maintaining Quality Control and Technical Engineering Duties

Reviewing the work of employees and colleagues to ensure it meets the established standards

Making suggestions to continually improve work quality, for both self and team
-
Review projects from the proposal stage through to completion, including allocation of budgets, personnel and resources, billing, and client relationships

Maintain technical proficiency, including participation in professional practice groups and organizations
-
Participate in the preparation and presentation of training programs
-
Providing clients with advice on appropriate regulations and guidelines
What You Bring to the Pinchin Team
-
University degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineering or related degree and experience
-
10 + years of experience in a geotechnical engineering role with experience in people and operational management
-
A Professional Engineering Designation in the Province of Ontario or be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
-
Experience managing a CCIL Certified Lab, considered an asset
-
Able to work closely with our project teams across the company where geotechnical support may be of assistance, such as Environmental Due Diligence and Remediation and Building Sciences

Proven technical writing skills for preparing geotechnical engineering reports and letters for clientele

Strong communication skills, professional presentation, and technical expertise

Familiarity with invoicing, budgeting, and other areas of project-related financial management
-
Experience with business development initiatives and client interaction
