What this challenge is about
You will be an integral part of the Portfolio Construction team, which handles the geographical and sectoral allocation of assets in a global real estate portfolio worth $6 billion. The department is responsible for setting the portfolio’s strategic priorities to meet specified performance objectives. The team must also stay abreast of new technological solutions, using them to build quantitative tools and financial models to provide guidance on the best overall investment strategy for Ivanhoé Cambridge. Duties include the following:
Generate and analyze the information needed to run the department’s stress test tool as it calculates the portfolio’s VaR;
Help create and validate predictive regression models to provide a better understanding of real estate fundamentals in various international markets;
Assist with building dashboards for monitoring strategic portfolio allocation and sources of portfolio risk;
Help design and implement data management tools to populate various quantitative models;
Contribute to various analyses related to risk management and/or strategic forecasting;
Update the database of historical returns on a quarterly basis and take part in the development of a future computer solution;
Enter the information required to populate, update and calibrate portfolio management tools and databases.
What we’re looking for
Enrolment in the third year of a bachelor’s degree in business administration (concentration in business technology or finance) or econometrics, or enrolment in a master’s degree in a relevant field;
Considerable skill with data modelling, financial analysis and development of various types of systems;
Talent for manipulating massive datasets and gleaning relevant information from them through data mining;
Advanced knowledge of Excel and complementary tools (including Power Query and Power Pivot) as well as database and SharePoint fundamentals;
Familiarity with MATLAB and R programming languages;
Independent self-starter with a commitment to achieving stated objectives;
Curiosity and determination to resolve complex problems.
