DEFINITION:
Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Finance, performs a variety of accounting, clerical and reception duties associated with the Finance Department, and support other City departments as required.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Perform reception duties and deal with the public in a friendly and proficient manner;

Receive payments and process them through the cash receipting system, reconcile and balance cash daily;

Maintain tax and utility masters, and process changes such as new subdivisions/amalgamations, address and property owner information from B.C. Assessment Authority and Land Title, by-laws, amended tax notices and adjustments, etc.;

Process bylaw and latecomer information on masters, and update masters regarding frontage taxes;
-
Prepare and run tax notices, process penalties, answer enquiries, process Pre-Authorized Payments, and issue tax notices, as required;

Maintain, follow-up and process Applications for Service (taxes and utilities);
-
Reconcile accounts (taxes, utilities, NSF cheques, etc.) as required;

Monitor issuing of transit tickets and passes to outside agencies, prepare monthly transit report, count transit coin, and prepare deposit;

Process all money received by other departments, except for Recreation;

Maintain a Bring Forward (BF) file, as required;

Maintain Client Codes;
- Open vault in a.m. and lock up in p.m.;

Provide coverage and support for Accounting clerk III duties, as required;

Perform data entry and switchboard duties, as required;
- Other related duties, as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Secondary school graduation;

Minimum of three years' related work experience, including cashier and bookkeeping experience;

Computer experience, preferably in a Windows environment using Vadim software, with Word and Excel;

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
-
Demonstrated ability to use financial formulas and spreadsheets;

Demonstrated ability to reconcile accounts;
-
Familiarity with General Ledger account structures;
-
Ability to operate related equipment;
-
Accurate typing speed of 50 wpm;
-
Ability to work independently, set priorities, organize work, accomplish tasks and assignments, meet deadlines and manage a large volume of work with ever changing priorities in a flexible manner, often under pressure;

Accurate data processing skills – both keyboard and calculator (efficiency is essential);
-
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with co-workers and the public, using demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, in order to convey information and explain technical and procedural matters;

Good written and oral communication skills;

Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's Licence.
