Manager, Corporate Financial Reporting and Taxation

Reporting to the Senior Director, Finance + Corporate Controller, the Manager, Financial Reporting and Taxation is responsible for a full spectrum of accounting duties including monthly, quarterly and annual financial & operational reporting, complex accounting and tax analysis, corporate tax return and compliance for multiple entities.

Primary responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Managing the full cycle accounting for SHAPE Investment and Operating companies including monthly and annual close processes;
Preparation or review of quarterly and annual financial statements for all Corporate entities including complex consolidation and combinations;
Analyzing complex accounting issues including preparation of accounting memos, journal entries and financial statement implications;
Overseeing the preparation of the annual tax returns;
Identifying and mitigating tax risks while providing tax planning analysis in collaboration with third part tax advisors;
Maintaining and enhancing strong internal controls over financial reporting such as documenting and implementing processes and system improvements;
Training, supervising and coaching the Senior Accountants;
Liaising with various external parties including auditors and tax service providers.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Work experience in the real estate industry, particularly real estate development, is a major asset;
Critical and analytical thinker to consistently drive efficiency and change where necessary;
Proficient with using Excel and other Microsoft Office tools;
Very systems savvy, and able to assess current usage of systems and areas of opportunity to optimize and improve said usage. Experience using Yardi is an asset;
Works with a sense of urgency, energy and curiosity;
Strong ability to adhere to deadlines under pressure, proactive, dependable and solutions oriented.

Required Training and Experience:
CPA designation required (minimum three years post qualification) with a strong knowledge of IFRS, ASPE and Canadian corporate tax;
Experience managing the full cycle accounting cycle for multiple entities;
Equally effective doing the work and getting into the detail as stepping back and understanding the strategic impact on the organization;
Positive and energetic personality with strong organizational abilities and an ability to learn quickly;
Collaborative and communicative with excellent relationship building skills;
Team oriented, motivated and collaborative; keenly focused on coaching and mentoring;
Passionate about continuous improvement with experience in process and systems improvement or implementation.
