Required Qualifications:
A valid BC Teaching Certificate
Bachelor of Education (Elementary)
Major in French and fluency equivalent to a native speaker in both written and oral French
Board certified to teach French Immersion
Additional Teacher training/certification, e.g.:
Coursework specific to kindergarten, e.g. play-based learning
Coursework specific to early childhood development
Certificates relative to early learning or kindergarten
Evidence of recent successful teaching and experience at the kindergarten level (Kindergarten practicum is acceptable) including French Immersion classes
Desired Qualities/Attributes:
Demonstrated ability to provide physical activity to Kindergarten students to enhance the full-day Kindergarten program
Strong background in play-based learning and experience providing a play-based program in an early primary setting
Teacher training/certification based on early childhood learning (e.g. Early Childhood Education); and/or other relevant training or experience that could be considered toward equivalency for a lack of teaching experience at the full-day kindergarten level
Thorough and current knowledge of the full-day kindergarten curriculum
Understanding of Early Childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices
Commitment to support the full range of student abilities
Effective communication skills with students, parents and colleagues
Commitment to continuing professional development
Successful experience with adapting and modifying materials for a diversity of learners
Working knowledge of using computing technology to support learning
A commitment to the Principles of Inclusive Schools and Principles of Learning
Good working knowledge of and experience with “The Primary Program: A Framework for Teaching”
Demonstrated skill and ability to work with young children with diverse learning needs
Knowledge of current best practice in early literacy instruction

French Fluency Requirements for Teaching Positions in Saanich School District
Candidates seeking positions in core French Grades 9-12 and/or French Immersion K-12 are required to submit an official Test de Français International (T.F.I.) score (please see SD #63 minimum proficiency levels below). For candidates wishing to teach core French K-8, a separate District French Competency Test, in lieu of the T.F.I, will be conducted by the District Language Coordinator. All candidates, who are selected for further screening, will take part in a 45 minute employment interview conducted in French.
