Overview
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Butcher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the food industry and a commitment to delivering high-quality meat products to our customers. As a Butcher, you will play a crucial role in food preparation and ensuring that all meat products are handled safely and efficiently. Your expertise in meat cutting and customer service will contribute to an exceptional shopping experience for our patrons.
Duties
- Breaking down whole carcasses of beef, pork, lamb and chicken, including grinding, and portioning meats according to specifications.
- Ensure all meat products are prepared and packaged in compliance with food safety standards, as well as customer orders
- Making sausages from scratch, including fresh and smoked varieties
- Preparing broths, curries and other prepared meals utilizing all the parts of the animal
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area, adhering to strict hygiene protocols.
- Assist customers with their selections, providing knowledgeable recommendations and excellent customer service.
- Monitor inventory levels of meat products and communicate needs for restocking to management.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient operations within the kitchen environment.
- Oversee other butchers, ensuring all standards are being met and work is being completed efficiently.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices related to food handling and preparation.
Experience
- Previous experience as a butcher or in a similar role within the food industry is preferred.
- previous experience in a leadership role is an asset
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices for handling meats.
- Proficiency in various meat cutting techniques is essential.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to engage positively with customers.
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment and tools used in food preparation.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Requirements:
- physically fit
- minimum 3 years experience cutting and deboning whole carcasses of beef, pork, lamb and chicken
- minimum 2 years experience in a leadership role in either a butcher shop or restaurant
- excellent knife skills
- able to lift 50lbs or more multiple times per day
- excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- good organizational skills
- ability to problem solve and troubleshoot when problems arise
