About the Role
Mastermind Youth Foundation is seeking an Agricultural Technologist to support the development of sustainable food production initiatives in Lambton County. This position will play an important role in establishing and maintaining food-producing landscapes, supporting community food security efforts, and helping prepare for the future implementation of agricultural technologies and controlled-environment growing systems.
The successful candidate will work hands-on with food forest development, crop production, site maintenance, and agricultural projects while contributing to innovative approaches to local food production.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, development, and maintenance of food forest guilds and edible landscapes.
- Plant, cultivate, harvest, and maintain food-producing crops and trees.
- Support site preparation, irrigation, mulching, composting, and soil health initiatives.
- Monitor plant health and implement appropriate maintenance practices.
- Maintain records related to crop production, planting schedules, and project activities.
- Assist with food harvesting, storage, and distribution activities.
- Support community gardening, food security, and agricultural development initiatives.
- Research and assist in implementing future agricultural technologies, including hydroponic and controlled-environment growing systems.
- Operate tools and equipment safely and maintain clean and organized workspaces.
- Assist with special projects, events, and community outreach activities as required.
Qualifications
Required:
- Interest in agriculture, horticulture, environmental studies, food systems, or related fields.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to perform physical work including lifting, carrying, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred:
- Experience with gardening, farming, horticulture, landscaping, or food production.
- Knowledge of native plants, fruit trees, permaculture, or food forests.
- Familiarity with sustainable agriculture practices.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
