Trans-Plan is an innovative and forward-thinking traffic engineering firm taking a tech-focused approach to solving transportation problems in Ontario and beyond. Our team needs a Traffic Surveyor to assist in a project in the Uptown area of the City of Waterloo.
This is a temporary position for two days in mid-October, 2021. The dates are to be determined but will likely be one day between Monday and Thursday, October 18-21 and also Saturday, October 23. The survey day will range from 8am until 8pm, but individual surveyors would not be expected to work the entire 12 hours (unless they want to) – but rather any mutually agreed upon portion of the day. If you would like to work only 4 hours on 1 day, or 12 hours each of the 2 days, we are interested in hearing from you. There may be some variation in length of workday depending on weather and scheduling. At least 48 hours' notice will be provided for work availability.
Duties:
Reporting to the Data Supervisor, you will be responsible for data collection via in-person on-site parking surveys. The survey is to record the number of vehicles parked in specific locations. The data will be recorded on paper or on electronic tablets. The surveys could be conducted on foot, on your bicycle, or as a passenger in a vehicle driven by a Trans-plan employee. You will work with other surveyors from our company for the duration of the contract.
Responsibilities:
- Meeting at the survey site within the Uptown Waterloo area in time to start your survey shift. It is critical to be there when expected. Those located outside of the area will be required to travel to the site via their own mode of transportation although, you will be reimbursed for vehicle mileage and time for commuting to survey site.
- Recording parking data using clipboards/tablets, and later transferring to Excel sheets.
- Complying with safety guidelines whilst surveying at all times (Training is Provided).
Qualifications:
- A valid Ontario driver's license and access to a personal vehicle may be needed, if located farther away from the Region of Waterloo.
- Access to a bicycle or longboard would be useful for some surveys, but is not required for surveyors who will work as passengers in vehicles.
- Familiarity using spreadsheets with programs such as Excel is required.
- Be able to work as a team and individually.
- Must be punctual and reliable, and must always represent the company in a professional manner.

- Gas reimbursement for vehicle mileage cost at a rate of 0.30/km and travel time reimbursement to and from location for commuting to survey site.
