Summary
The Maintenance / Truck Driver is responsible for safely transporting plants, products, and equipment between farms and storage facilities. This role also involves maintaining trucks, trailers, forklifts, pullers, and other equipment used on the farm. When not driving, the individual will assist with general farm duties and maintenance tasks as needed.
Responsibilities
(include but are not limited to)
- Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport plants and materials.
- Ensure the safety and security of all cargo.
- Inspect and monitor vehicle conditions, including tires, lights, brakes, cold storage units, and other equipment.
- Perform and record pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of cargo, hours of service, distance traveled, and fuel consumption.
- Accurately document damaged products, number of carts shipped and returned, and complete all packing slips and paperwork.
- Return all trip paperwork to the logistics office after each run.
- Maintain cleanliness of trucks, trailers, and work areas around the farm.
- Comply with all traffic laws and safety regulations, on and off the road.
- Manage time effectively to meet delivery appointments and communicate any delays or issues as needed.
- Proactively identify and recommend process improvements for efficiency.
- Load and unload trailers (pallets and racks) and assist shipping personnel with their loading/unloading operations.
- Monitor and maintain correct temperatures in refrigerated and heated trailers using refer/heater units.
- Support various farm operations when not driving, including shipping/receiving, maintenance work and general labor duties.
- Assist with general maintenance around farming operations as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned in and around the farm.
Education
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
Skills, Qualities, and Experience
- Valid DZ or AZ driver’s license with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
- Proficient in operating manual transmission vehicles.
- Applicants will be required to provide a current Ontario Driver's Abstract (Driver Record) satisfactory to the Company and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of employment
- Ability to load/unload flower carts and lift up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs.).
- Strong attention to detail to accurately complete required documentation, including accident/incident reports, trip and inspection reports, maintenance logs, and bills of lading.
- Ability to operate E-Log apps, GPS systems, and onboard trip recorders.
- Able to manage stressful traffic situations and interact professionally with customers.
- Fluent in English (written and verbal).
- Prior greenhouse or agricultural experience is an asset.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Skilled in identifying issues with trucks, trailers, other equipment and making recommendations for their repair.
Working Conditions
- Standing, walking, driving, reaching, and bending.
- Repetitive motions (picking and packing).
- Pushing and pulling carts.
- Lifting and carrying weights up to 20 kg (44 lbs.).
- Average 42.5–50 hours per week.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, including periods of high heat, humidity, or cold.
- Shifts will be from Thursday – Monday each week. Days off Tuesday and Wednesday.
Compensation & Benefits:
- The salary range for this position is $25.00-$27.00 per hour. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills, qualifications, and relevant experience.
