W&J Construction Ltd. is a leader in Multifamily Construction across Western Canada and has over 35 years of experience in land development and new construction with its roots originating in Victoria.
With over 100 pieces of equipment, W&J is looking for an experienced full-time Heavy-Duty Mechanic to join its team to maintain our growing fleet and keep it operational.
The job entails working in the field and indoors at our brand-new mechanic shop. W&J acquired a 4-acre laydown yard and is building a 8,400 sqft heated mechanic shop to service our fleet.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Maintain, diagnose, and repair equipment, including excavators, rock truck, gravel trucks, day cab tractor, telehandlers, bulldozer, skid steers, compactors, trailers, and other heavy equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems, hydraulics, and air systems
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools
- Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
- Created scheduled maintenance for equipment and keep up to date equipment service records
- Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings
- Weld broken parts and structural members, using electric or gas welders
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, ensuring compliance with company safety policies
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience working on heavy-duty equipment
- Valid B.C. Provincial/ Interprovincial Journeyman Technical Certification (Heavy Duty)
- Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems used in heavy equipment
- Commercial Inspection Certificate is an asset
- Valid driver’s license with sensible abstract, Class 1 is an asset
- Skilled welder/fabricator, Welding ticket is a significant asset
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work diplomatically and professionally with others
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35.00-$55.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
