Job Description
This posting is for 1 temporary, full-time position for up to 12 months

The Design and Media Specialist will carry out all marketing objectives for the Economic Development and Tourism department. You will handle print and digital communications needs, working on materials from concept to completion.


Develop marketing and informational materials to reach department objectives and target audiences
Create professional marketing materials such as client information packages, annual reports, publications, advertising, brochures, maps, and tourism promotional materials
Provide materials to support the department’s strategic initiatives and work plans to attract, retain and expand the economic base of Strathcona County
Develop required materials from conceptual design to the production and market ready stages
Maintain the department content on Strathcona County’s website and external resources
Implement marketing objectives using digital media – photography, video and social media
Provide professional advice on the department’s communication challenges and opportunities
Document and manage the retention of marketing and informational materials and methods used
Stay current on new trends and technologies used in the design and media industry
Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in industry standard publishing software (Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, social media)
Strong web design skills and experience working in content management software
Knowledge of HTML and other programming languages is considered an asset
A high degree of creativity and the ability to apply layout and graphic design to web-based material
Ability to provide digital video and photography for media events
Strong organization and time management skills
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skill and the ability to work on a team

A diploma in graphic design, marketing or visual communications with a minimum of two years related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Membership in the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada or other accredited organizations is considered an asset
Related experience in the economic development or tourism industry is an asset
Conditions of Employment

Submission of Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
